#UHBristolArts ‘Second Wednesdays’ BREATH event
Wed 11 September 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm BSTFree
Dr Anna Farthing, Arts Programme Director for Univerisity Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust will introduce the evening with some poetry around the theme of Breath.
Havi Carel, Professor of Philosophy, University of Bristol, will talk about the experience of breathlessness from a philosophical perspective. How does breathlessness shrink our world and distrupt our habits? And is it possible to experience wellness with breathlessness?
Kate Binnie, music, yoga and mindfulness therapist and Life of Breath research associate, University of Bristol, will talk about the body-mind link and how ‘soft skills’ like breathing together can be used to support patients, families and professionals dealing with ‘complex symptoms’ at the end of life.
BREATH exhibition and artwork: After the talks, there will be an opportunity to view the new BREATH exhibition on the ground floor of the BRI, curated by the #UHBristolArts intern, Amy Rance, who is studying for the MA Curating at the University of the West of England. There will also be a chance to see the mural created by Sophie Rae in consultation with the patients and staff of the Respiratory Department. It was commissioned by the Life of Breath project in collaboration with #UHBristolArts and has been installed in the Respiratory Outpatients waiting room. You can read more about our other collaborations with Sophie on our blog.
